The original demo campaign is now The Early Years, and it has a new story: eight runes hidden in the upgrade tree, Randy's new magnet core built to harness them, and a new ending.

8bit Salvage is a cleaning incremental set in a tiny three-person salvage shop that reclaims retired video game sprites for the pixels they are made of.

You are the new hire, and you actually work the floor. Your tool is a spinning brush, held over the art rather than pressed into it. Pixels come away one at a time and drift toward a magnet at the centre of the screen, where they are reclaimed, graded and sold. The sprites themselves never break apart — the pixels peel off a backing, and the backing vanishes once it is bare.

It starts quiet. About ten minutes in, acidic goo arrives. Later the magnet begins firing roller brushes outward in volleys, physically shoving the pile around. By the late game a tidy little cleaning job has escalated into a board-clearing storm — and the answer is always better tools, never faster hands.

Running the shop is Bob, its lazy owner, who is confidently and cheerfully wrong about how every single thing works and will explain it to you at length. Behind him is Randy, the inventor responsible for every machine on the floor, who lets Bob do the talking and quietly slides him a correction note when he gets it wrong.
